Playing at Splitcoast

In continuing my weekend of playing over at Splitcoast Stampers, I'm doing two more challenges.  The first one is today's Featured Stamper Challenge.  I couldn't resist playing because it is the fabulous Emily Keaton!  She is really talented and such a super sweet person!  Congrats Emily!  I chose this card of hers for inspiration.  I was inspired by the patterns (polka dots and chevrons) and the colours.  I wanted to play along with the Hero Arts Thinking of You contest theme this month too. The Hero Arts Zig Zag background was perfect for this and I thought would use some of my new washi tape and one of the new wood veneers.  I'm on a travel themed kick so the postage stamp die and sentiment (two combined/masked) from XO were perfect.

The next challenge is another Virtual Stamping Night Challenge.  This is for the Map Element/Globe challenge.  Well, hmm... do you think I have any map paper/stamps/embellishments?  I have such a stash of travels stuff that this was an easy one for me - just a matter of picking a colour palette! Decided to use the books & globe from Paper Smooches Smarty Pants and the sentiment from Get Outta Town to make this fun little bookmark.

Journeys

If you stopped by last night, you saw that I hosted a challenge over at Splitcoast Stampers' Virtual Stamping Night.  I couldn't resist playing along with a few more challenges today since the theme is 'Journeys'.  This lends itself to all sort of travel-ish challenges and you know how much I love travel stuff!

This first one is for the Luggage/Bags challenge.  Couldn't resist inking up the luggage from Get Outta Town from Paper Smooches (inking it up for the first time, I might add).  It lends itself so well to paper piecing!  For the coconut drink, I used my Copic blender pen to make the 'texture' of a coconut.  The sketch is very loosely based on this one. I just couldn't get the image and sentiment to work with a square so made it into a rectangle.

This one is for the Landmarks/Scene challenge.  I just got these Studio Calico Veneers and the Hit the Road design card for my Slice so couldn't resist using them!

Way to Go

Now for something completely differently... well, not completely.  It is a challenge (which I love) but it's over at Splitcoast Stampers Virtual Stamp Night and I am hosting!  The challenge is to use any mode of transportation on your card (stamped/paper/embellishment) - airplane, hot air balloon, bicycle, boat, car, truck, motorcycle, skateboard... whatever strikes your fancy!  You know I love my travel themed stuff so this whole VSN theme of Journeys is right up my alley!

Thankful

It is Thanksgiving this weekend so I thought it would be appropriate to post a thank you card today. Also, I have to tell you what I am thankful for...my great hubby Karl, my loving family, my amazing friends (and I am lucky to have several), my home, my garden, and my healthy body. I'm also thankful that you have stopped by my blog today!

Today's card is for the Splitcoast Stampers Hope You Can Cling To - Some kinda hope Challenge. The challenge was to use something old and something new. The patterned paper is old and the buttons are new. This is also for Curtain Call Act 50 and 2 Sketches 4 You Bonus Sketch (from Stacey who is also the host of the Curtain Call).

If you don't know about it, Splitcoast Stampers is hosting the Hope You Can Cling To challenges during the month of October. Ric Rac

For some reason, which escapes me at the moment, I don't own a lot of ric rac. That's probably the reason I bought the EK Success Zig Zag Chain punch. Now I can make ric rac any time, any where! Why am I going on and on about ric rac? Embellish Magazine is running a Ric Rac Colour Challenge. The hardest colour for me to put on this card was the turquoise. It's just not a colour I use...ever. This is probably the third time I've used it in the 10 plus years I've been stamping. Thanks to the fabulous DT at Embellish for their inspiration.

ETA - Thanks to my friend Alli Miles, I tried something new on this card - threading paper through the ribbon! Yes, I'm a little behind the times!

Random Amusing Challenge #69

Happy Memorial Day to my American friends. Hope you have the day off, the sun is shining and you can relax! The weather here is 11 C, overcast and wet, and it's May... yes, I'm complaining. I don't usually complain about the weather here (except that it's not hot enough for me) cause we have the best weather in Canada.

I was inspired by Carly to run out and buy something to create the glossy effect on the glasses (I got Diamond Glaze). That, in turn, was the inspiration for this week's challenge. The challenge is to put something clear on your project. Ideas include acetate, clear stickers, clear embossing powder, etc. If you play along, please leave a comment here and link back here on your post. Tuesday tidbits

A little bit of everything today....

I had a lot of fun at my classes on the weekend. Thanks to Sophie, Joyce, Peta and Anne for a great Stunning Shimmer class at Lasting Impressions on Saturday (totally forgot to take photos even though I had my camera there - duh). I am teaching that class again on May 30th and I think there are a few spots left if you are interested - give the store a call.

Sunday brought a road trip to Crafty Capers to teach the Stationery Box class. At the last minute, I actually remembered to take a photo (and everyone was still there - miraculous!). Thanks to Linda, Victoria (store owner) Kathy, Leslie, Sue and Linda for a gre

Happy Earth Day - hug a tree or kiss a flower

Happy Earth Day! One of my favourite days of the year so I made a card to celebrate the Earth. I used only scraps for this card (except for the base), including the ribbon. I didn't start a new sheet of pearls either. The colours are all ones that make me think of nature too - the plants, the ocean, the sun, the soil. Other inspiration comes from Splitcoast Stampers Sketch Challenge 277 and Ways to Use It 267 (mixed patterns).

Yes, I was inspired by mushrooms. I love eating them but don't often get too since I live with someone who doesn't like them. Anyway, I digress. I'm playing along with the SCS Inspiration challenge. I picked this piece of artwork from Geninne's Etsy shop. Couldn't resist using the mushroom trio, one of my favourite stamps. Just stayed really simple on this except I went a little bonkers with the glitter... oh well, glitter is good for the soul. Maybe this card will coax the sun to come out !

More domesticity - I alwayg struggle with pork but found this great recipe - Oriental Stroganoff. Really easy and tasty.

I have another confession

A couple of weeks ago I admitted I was addicted to making calendars. Today, I am confessing that I am a card challenge junkie. I have three cards today and they are all for challenges.

The first is a new challenge I discovered. Lori's Purple Giraffes has the Color Dare Challenge. (ETA - here is the main Color Dare blog). Thanks Lori - this was a lot of fun! I have a hard time with this shade of blue but I think this turned out ok. I've just gotten into using kraft paper so had to try it. This is also for Sketch 121308 at Paper Craft Planet.




The next one is for some Splitcoast Challenges:
- Ways To Use It #257 - use an odd number of things (I used three colours, three stamps, three brads and three pieces of ribbon. I used one sentiment, one punch and one clip.)
- Sketch Challenge #267 - did this yesterday but it fit well with the Ways To Use It
- Colour Challenge #88 - green, purple and blue



Julie was pondering whether eggplant, green and burnt orange would go together. It inspired me to make this card. I think it turned out well. This is also for another Paper Craft Planet sketch - sk011610.

I really have to get down to some class prepping instead of all this 'just-for-fun' stamping. I was chatting online with Jenn and Sherry last night and they were talking about class prep. Reminded me that I have real "work" to do.

I love where I live...

...because it is the 5th of February and the flowers are blooming (and have been for a while) and the sun is shining. It makes me put a huge smile on my face. It also makes me realize my garden has been neglected and is in desperate need of weeding (I won't show you the weeds!). I went for a two hour walk this morning with my friend Joanna (who had the day off). It was so great to be outside.



On to today's card (which I actually made yesterday).. this is for the SCS Fan Club colour challenge. We were to be inspired by this Tiffany & Co photo. This is also for Tracy's Sketchy Thursday #69. This spotted tote stamp is an old A Muse stamp which I just got - isn't it fabulous? The scalloped line stamp is old but new to me also. I'm super excited today too as I got some happy mail which I will be playing with soon. It's some stamps from Papertrey Ink (my first ever order from Papertrey) which were designed by my friend Alli Miles. Hopefully I'll have something to show you tomorrow!
