This week at Seize the Birthday, Colleen has chosen the theme candles. I don't have a lot of options for candles in my stash so I decided to make my own with some washi tape. The flames were made by inking up some paper with distress oxides and then die cut with the drops from this die set. Really happy with how this turned out - I credit my local crafty friends (J & D) with suggesting that I layer the flames.

wonderful wings
Happy 2023 to all! Wishing you all the best for the upcoming year.
The first Seize the Birthday challenge of the year is courtesy of Cathy and it is 'winged things'. Birds, butterflies... airplanes. Went very clean and simple with my card.

CASE the STB DT
It's our last Seize the Birthday challenge of the year. So hard to believe! I fell like i say this every year but this year seems to have gone by so quickly... and it's been a weird year, that's for sure!
Barbara came up with a fabulous idea for a challenge - CASE a member of the Seize the Birthday Design Team. So if you want to play along, head over to the STB blog and scroll through the DT posts to pick something that inspires you!
I couldn't decide on just one so I picked two! We have such great designers on our team. The first one was inspired by this card of Nancy's. The mottled flower was made by splashing some water on the Distress Oxide ink.
This second one was inspired by this card from Jules.

so many stars
It's so hard to believe that we at Seize the Birthday are on our last couple of challenges for 2022! This year seemed to fly by. First off, I'd like to welcome our new team member, Linda Snodgrass! So great to have you joining us Linda.
This week's challenge, courtesy of Ashwini, is to use several of one thing. I made it easy on myself and used a stencil! The stencil, stamp and dies are all relatively new to my stash and courtesy of a couple of friends.

wicked colours
I'm really having a hard time believing it's November next week. In the spirit of the end of October season (lol), Vicki has chosen Hallowe'en theme for us at Seize the Birthday this week. I quite love these colours together and even though I'm not really a Hallowe'en celebrator, I thought I would build a Hallowe'en-ish sentiment. A little hard to see but the card base is dark purple.
Thanks so much for stopping by. Have a terrific day.

fabulous faces
I have to admit that I was a little worried that I wouldn't be able to come up with something for Shirley's faces (human or animal) challenge for Seize the Birthday. Animals and people are not my strong suit! Then I remembered my new Abstract Faces dies from Tim Holtz. I love how this turned out. It's hard to tell the difference between the purple (card base, 'hair' and earring) and the black (face).
Thanks so much for stopping by. Have a terrific day.

Case me a Christmas Card with Michelle Lupton
'Tis the season for Case me a Christmas Card with Michelle Lupton. I'm always thrilled when Michelle invites me back! All the details on this fun project are here.
It's always a challenge to pick a card to CASE as Michelle is so talented and I love so may of her cards. This is card I made...

clean & simple
Happy Thursday friends. I hope you are well and safe. We've had (are having) some storms here in North America on the east coast of Canada and now in the southeastern US. Thinking of you all! Thankfully we are having a lovely fall here on the Canadian west coast... I miss summer but am grateful for the continuing warm temperatures. Our winter storms will come soon enough!
The theme at Seize the Birthday this week, courtesy of our rock star leader Nancy, is clean & simple (CAS). It's my go-to style so am grateful that Nancy chose it. I decided to use some new goodies that I recently received from my friend Emily (thanks so much!). It's a little bit hard to see but I used acetate for the 'glass' underneath the 'beer' die. I'm a fan of hoppy beers and I have some friends & family who are too so it won't be hard to find someone to send this to. :)
Thanks so much for stopping by. Have a terrific day.

fabulous food
It's all about food over at Seize the Birthday this week. It's a little sad because it was our former DT member Lindsey's turn to pick the theme. :( She wouldn't want us to sulk though... she would just want us to celebrate food - one her favourite things (mine too!). Much as I love food, I always have a hard time with food cards. So I had to go in search of inspiration (see below for the card I CASEd). I did two cards because I wasn't sure if I was happy with the sentiment on the first one. The details that are hard to see are the Wink of Stella on the "scoops" in the first card, the Glossy Accents on the cherries and the cream coloured card stock in the second one.

lime & navy
At Seize the Birthday this week, we are joining our sister challenge, Color Hues Color Challenge to celebrate their 2nd birthday! Their colours are navy & lime green.
I love this colour combo but am lacking a bit of mojo these days so kept things pretty basic. There is some Wink of Stella on the silhouette but it's difficult to see.
This post will be like any other, as far as the winners go, each challenge blog will pick its own winner. So double your chances!
A big welcome to our new Surprise Party Guest, Åsa Johansson! Be sure to check out the blog to see what she and the rest of the team have created.
Thanks for stopping by! Have a terrific day and a wonderful weekend.

sketchy
This week at Seize the Birthday JoAnn has a sketch for us. I love sketch challenges... especially because everyone has such a different take on it. I know how much JoAnn loves flowers so I was inspired to use flowers for this card. I'm lacking a little mojo lately but managed to come up with this. After a couple of tries watercolouring this image, I decided that it's best if my watercolouring is not precise (that's probably best for most things with me!). The stamps are brand new (gift from a generous friend) and the ribbon is very old. I don't remember the last time I used ribbon but I have a lot of it so dug through my stash for something that worked. Apologies for my slightly warped sentiment.

stamp free
It was my turn to pick a theme this week at Seize the Birthday so I decided on something that is challenging for me - no stamping! I was struggling for inspiration for this card so I'm not 100% happy with it... but a wise friend & fellow design team member said to me this week "sometimes we just have to set our opinions aside". I didn't have a die to suit this card so I just wrote celebrate out by hand. It was fun using some new Tim Holtz dies and some cheerful Distress Oxides along with this fun mask from Taylored Expressions.

love for Lindsey
Well, this is the hardest post I've ever had to write. My friend, and fellow Seize the Birthday teammate, Lindsey Martin-Penny has passed away from cancer. I'm absolutely gutted that this beautiful shining light, with all of her sass, humour, realness and kindness, is gone. I was so fortunate to be able to meet Lindsey in person a few times and share some meals and laughs with her and her husband. In her last few days, I was sending her little videos from the beach (and maybe some photos of cocktails from my recent birthday party) and even when she was so sick, she had her love of life and sense of humour out in full force. She will be so missed by so many people and she'll always have a place in my heart.

marvelous metallics
Happy July! It happens to be my favourite month (as it's my birthday month!). Cathy has chosen the metallics theme for us at Seize the Birthday this week. I did not do anything fancy (looking at the description on the blog - I don't think I even own half of those things - haha!). I have some new Tim Holtz dies so was playing around with some metallic and shimmer papers for the CAS card. A little hard to see but the black, red and gold are shimmer papers and the silver is shinier.
