sweet treat

Shirley has chosen Sweet Treats for our Seize the Birthday challenge this week. I love this martini die but I've never used it to make an espresso martini so thought it would be a good time to use it - I definitely think of espresso martinis as dessert! The tone on tone cream looks better in real life - especially like it with the embossing in the background.

Hope you can play along with us! Please check out the blog give some craft love to Surprise Party Guest Kathy, previous winner Stef, and the rest of the design team.

Have a terrific day and a wonderful upcoming weekend.
Thanks for stopping by and commenting,

It's time for another Seize the Birthday challenge and Shirley has chosen off the edge. I love this challenge and decided to do a tipsy martini off the edge.  There is a bit of sparkle (Wink of Stella) on the martini but it's hard to see.

Be sure to check out the blog to see the great creations from the design team as well as Jolanda, our Surprise Party Guest, and previous winner Milla.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day,

it's just a number

Happy Thursday craft friends.  I must confess that I'm writing this very last minute and I'm tired - I started a new job this week after being unemployed since February so just adjusting to my new schedule. Definitely been a bit of a hectic week but I'm excited about my new gig.

Our Seize the Birthday Challenge this week is all about number crunching courtesy of Cathy. I made a grungy watercolour background with some Distress Oxides and a bunch of random Unity Stamps (so fun to dig out a bunch of stamps I haven't used for a long time!). Age is die cut with black card stock and then I added Glossy Accents.  I don't think I will ever do that again - it was a very runny/messy process putting Glossy Accents on those letters (I swore a lot).

Hope you can play along with us! Check out the blog for the rest of the fabulous creations from the DT as well as our Surprise Party Guest Bonnie. It's Bonnie's last challenge with us - thanks so much for all of your wonderful creations Bonnie!

Thanks so much for stopping by.  Hope you have a terrific day.

bursting with balloons

Hey crafty friends! Hope you're enjoying spring or fall where you are. We might FINALLY be getting some warm temperatures here soon - can't wait. There is a joke that Canadians' favourite pastime is talking about the weather... I'm definitely feeling that lately.

This week at Seize the Birthday we are playing with balloons, courtesy of Vicki.  I had many iterations of balloon cards (that look nothing like these) before I settled on the first one. Then I was hunting through some stamps when I across a hot air balloon stamp that I had never used before so decided to make another one. Also found some patterned paper that I had been hoarding (surprise surprise) that suited the balloon well. The patterned paper is sparkly but it's hard to see. One sassy and one whimsical - do you have a favourite?

Hope you can play along with us! Check out the blog for the rest of the beautiful creations from the DT as well as our Surprise Party Guest Hilary and our Things in a Garden winner Claire. This is Hilary's last challenge with us - thank you so much for all of your fabulous creations!

Have a wonderful weekend.

delightful drinks

Hey crafty friends... I don't know about you but I'm definitely having my fair share of food and beverages these days! ;) Actually, I am trying really hard not to snack while at home (moderately successful) and limit my adult beverages to the weekends (again, moderately successful).

Appropriately, our theme at Seize the Birthday this week is food and/or drinks.  My love of delicious food and beverages is no secret so it won't come as a surprise that I picked this theme.  Hope you like the result! Olives never make an appearance in my martinis but I am fond of them with a twist.

Hope you can join us for this challenge! Check out the blog for the rest of the tasty creations from the team and Stef, our Surprise Party Guest!

Have a terrific day and wonderful weekend.  Thanks for stopping by. Hope you are taking care of yourselves and staying well.

stunning stencils

Happy Thursday crafters!  Hope you're having a great week.  Winter weather is hitting us here on the west coast but I can't really complain.  We still have the best weather in the country!

At Seize the Birthday this week, we are having some fun with stencils.  I decided to get out my Gelli Arts plate and some paints for this challenge.  I played around with a bunch of different stencils and colour combos (see my Instagram) so it was hard to pick which one to make a card with.  (Note: don't be surprised if you see more of these panels on upcoming cards!) I finally decided to make two cards, one using the positive and the other using the negative. Plus, I love purple but don't use it nearly enough. The backgrounds are 'so much' that I kept everything else fairly simple. I have to give a shout out to my friend Cheiron for teaching me this technique!

Do you have a favourite? I really like how they both turned out but think it's so cool that the colours show up so well on the black.

Be sure to head over to the blog to see what the rest of the team and our Surprise Party Guest Joyce have created with their stencils.

Thanks for stopping by.  Have a terrific day and a wonderful weekend.

gorgeous geo

I'm just going to apologize off the start for this late post. Apparently I lost a week somewhere in September! No good excuse ... just forgetfulness.

We are playing with geometric shapes this week at Seize the Birthday. I pulled out my hexagon dies (which are sadly underused) for this one as well as some long retired paper.  I rarely make cards with a kraft card base ... even though I love them.  So this is a card full of things I rarely do/use.  Hope you like it!

Be sure to head over to the blog to give our Surprise Party Guest Annie and the rest of the design team some love for their numeric wonders.

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a terrific day and a wonderful weekend.

make a wish

Happy February!  What?!? How has a month of 2018 passed already?  Hope you're doing well and settling into the new year.  This week at Seize the Birthday, we are featuring candles. This stressed me out a bit because I don't have a lot of candy stamps and exactly zero candle dies.  So I decided to build some candles. I wrapped the paper around a small pencil and then used some double sided tape seal them up. I clipped some small sections of string, put some double sided tape on the end and then used some tweezers to put them inside the candles.

Hope you can play along with use this week!  Be sure to check the blog for all the details and give some love to Kristie and the rest of the design team.

Thanks for stopping by and have a terrific day.

Happy 2018!

Happy 2018 crafty friends!  Hope all is well in your world!  Welcome back to the Seize the Birthday challenge.  We are taking it easy on you this week (a.k.a. it is a topping-free week) so hope you get a chance to play along.  I have to admit that I was happy about this cause after all those Christmas cards I made (check out my Instagram account to see some), I just wanted to make an easy birthday card!

We said goodbye to team member Patti in November (was sad to see her go) but am happy to welcome new team member (who I've met in person!) Lindsey to the team.  Also, we are welcoming the talented Kristie to join us as our Surprise Party Guest for the next couple of months.

Thanks for stopping by and hope you have a terrific day!

Circular

Hey friends!  Hope all is well with you. We are playing around with circles at Seize the Birthday.  I did a watercolour card with a 'coffee stain' stamp from Paper Smooches. There are little bits of sparkle on it too.

Hope you can play along with us this week.  Be sure to head over to the blog for all the challenge guidelines and give the DT and our Surprise Party guest Becca.

gettin' krafty

How's is going krafty friends?  Hope all is well in your world.  We are enjoying a beautiful autumn in this part of the world... it was 15 (Celsius for my American friends) degrees on Tuesday and it's supposed to be just as nice today. I was all set to go to the gym and decided that a run outside was a far better option.

So you may be questioning my spelling today but we are playing with kraft paper over at Seize the Birthday this week so I'm just being a little silly. The option/topping is to have a kraft card base... this is what I came up with. Pretty CAS but I like the colour combination.

Hope you can play along with us this week.  Be sure to head over to the blog for all the challenge guidelines and give the DT and our Surprise Party guest Becca.

Splatter!!!

Hope you're having an awesome week crafty friends! Life has been busy and fun here... with little time to craft.  Need to get back to my table!

This week at Seize the Birthday our topping/theme is SPLATTER!!! So much fun and the possibilities are endless.  I used a stencil and paint for mine.  Love how it turned out with the bright colours on the black.

Our team and Lindsey did an amazing job with the splatters!  Be sure to head over to the blog to check them out and get all the details on how to play along.

Red, white and....

Happy July crafty friends!  Hope life is treating you well.  I think summer has finally arrived here... we just skipped spring and went directly from winter to summer.  I've been busy and not crafting as much as I'd like to... will have to remedy that soon!

This week at Seize the Birthday, the theme/topping is "red, white and you"... you can add whatever colour you like to the red and white combination.  As you likely know, I love, love, love red and decided to add yellow to my card.

Hope you get a chance to play along with us this week.  Be sure to stop at the blog for all the details on how to play along.  Give some love to our new Surprise Party Guest Lindsey and the rest of the design team.

Up, up & away

Happy Thursday... hope you are having a great week! Time for another Seize the Birthday challenge and the option/topping this week is 'anything that flies'. So many options... planes, birds, bats (haha)... and I went with kites. :) Used my watercolour pencils for the kites and the sky.

Hope you get a chance to play along this week.  As always, the details are on the blog... as are all the rest of the fabulous design team creations. Be sure to give them some love!

A little side note - our fearless leader, Nancy, celebrated her 50th birthday on Monday and we did a little blog hop for her here.

Positively negative

Happy Thursday!  Time for Seize the Birthday and the topping/option this week is to use the negative.  So I used the negative of a word bubble from Paper Smooches.  :)  Simple but cute (in my humble opinion - lol!).  Hope you like it.

Please check out the blog for the details on how to play along and to give some love to the rest of the design team!  They always have great stuff!

Little bit of masculine

Happy Thursday crafters!  Hope you are having a great week.  Thanks for stopping by to check out this week's Seize the Birthday challenge.  The option this week is 'masculine'.  Pulled together this quick and easy card.  I have to not 'think too much' with masculine cards cause they can be tough for me.

Must welcome our newest team member Anika Lerche!  Thrilled to have her on the team. She will be officially joining us on March 12th! Be sure to check out the blog for details and the other fabulous team creations!

Paper Crafts & Scrapbooking Magazine Special Thanks! Blog Hop

Wow... not really sure what to say here today.  Paper Crafts Magazine has been such force in the paper crafting world and I am sad that it will soon be no longer.  However, I believe we should celebrate the fabulous entity and the amazing people that are Paper Crafts Magazine!

First off... you should have arrived here from Brenda Weaver's blog... secondly, here is the card I created.  My mojo is a little rusty these days as I haven't been crafting due to grad school so hope you like it! (In retrospect - I should have done a martini card - would have been far more appropriate!  LOL).

I going to try to keep this short and sweet but I do want to talk about some of the highlights of my relationship with Paper Crafts Magazine:

  • The relationship really started when I won World Card Making Day in the fall of 2010.  Can't tell you how giddy I was. Here's the card.
  • Getting chosen Moxie Fabber of the Week in the spring of 2011 was pretty fabulous too.
  • Going to CHA in January of 2013 was so amazing as I got to meet the fabulous Paper Crafts ladies, the Go-To Girls as well so many other amazing crafters
  • Just about fell off the couch when I got the email I was going to be a cover girl in July 2013.  Pretty freakin' cool.

I have to say, the best thing about this magazine, for me, is the relationships and amazing friendships it has facilitated and the opportunities it created for me.  I am humbled and honoured and I thank all of you soooo much for everything you done.  Your genuine passion and enthusiasm for the craft always shone through!

Here's a picture of Susan R. Opel, Cath Evaldson and me at CHA 2013. Was pretty thrilled to meet these two!

Bethany has created a fabulous video... check it out!  Also, a big thanks to Taheerah for organizing the hop!  Thanks for all of your hard work!

Now that you are done reading my ramblings... head off to see what Kelly Griglione created!

Thanks for stopping by.  Big hugs to all the fabulous ladies at Paper Crafts Magazine - we love you and you'll be missed! xoxo

Let's Party

Happy Thursday and happy summer (or winter)!  We are enjoying some amazing weather here…. loving the warmth, the sunshine and the long days… and some relaxation here and there.

Welcome to another Seize the Birthday challenge!  As always, the theme is "anything goes" and the topping/option this week is "stars and stripes".  I opted out of the topping (which is totally ok if you play along!).

Hope you can play along this week.  All of the details are on the blog.  Be sure to swing by there and check out all of the fabulous designs by the rest of the team.

Happy belated Canada Day to my fellow Canadians and happy Independence Day to my American friends…. and happy "almost weekend" to everyone else!

Thanks so much for stopping by.

Seize the… Chevrons!

Happy Thursday crafty friends!  Hope you are doing well… hard to believe January is finished!  I am back to work, back to school, back to busy.  However, got a crafty weekend away with some friends at Wyldflower B&B a few weeks ago so got a bunch of cards and some scrapbooking done (actually completed some scrapbooking projects - shocking!  That rarely happens!).  By the way, if you live on the west coast of BC - be sure it check it out!  Amazing place!

It's time for another Seize the Birthday Challenge!  As usual, it is 'anything goes' but there often there is a topping or "option".  This week it is chevrons.

All the details are on the blog!  Be sure to check out the rest of the fabulous creations by the rest of the design team.

Party Bubble

Hi again!  Weird title I know... once you look at the card it will be self explanatory!  One of my challenges to myself is coming up with unique titles for my blog posts... I think I succeeded this time.

Playing along with another challenge... Speech Bubble Challenge in the Moxie Fab World.  I have such a hard time with birthday cards (weird, I know) so thought I would challenge myself to do a speech bubble birthday card.

I hope you like it!  I have so many of these little bags that I never use... happy I could use one up on this card.

Thanks for stopping by and enjoy your day.
