yellow + black

Hey crafty friends and happy official summer to those in the northern hemisphere! Just a quick hello to go along with this yellow and black card for Color Hues #135.  Went clean, simple and bold for this one. I always want to be bold when I put black and yellow together - lol.  I really like tone on tone but it's not always easy to see in photos.

Thanks to the fabulous Carol for this wonderful challenge and thanks to you for stopping by!
Have a great day,
Glenda

red & black

Hey crafty friends.  I couldn't resist playing along with one of my favourite colour combos - red & black - over at Colour Hues Challenge. I recently took a fall leaves watercolour painting class and couldn't resist putting some of those techniques into this card. I used Distress Ink for this card... since I made it, I've picked up some watercolour paints (always more crafty supplies to buy - right?). I've also accumulated many leaves in my jacket pockets - lol.

Thanks to the design team for all the fabulous inspiration.

Have a great day and I'll be back on Thursday with another Seize the Birthday challenge.
Thanks for stopping by.

a little note

It's a been a minute since I played along with the Color Hues Challenge but fall is definitely in the air and I'm feeling the rust and green colour combo. I got these Tim Holtz leaf dies recently and hadn't used them yet so thought it was a good opportunity. I smooshed a couple of Distress Oxides for the green (Mowed Lawn & Pine Needles) and swiped a regular Distress (Rusty Hinge) for the rust.

Really need to try to play along with this fun challenge more often.  The team always has such great creations.
Thanks for stopping by.  Always appreciate the comments.

turquoise & green

Happy that I got my self organized enough to do another Color Hues Challenge.  This time it's a combo that I love - turquoise and green.  I got out some Tim Holtz dies and went super CAS for this one (the gem in the right corner is green - it's hard to see). The Abstract Element dies are so fun to play with. The design team over there knocked it out of the park too - love all of their creations!

Thanks for stopping by and have a great week!

Colour Hues - Lilac & Mint

For some reason, I seem to gravitate towards colour challenges that will REALLY challenge me. This time it's lilac and mint from Colour Hues.  I don't have any trouble with the darker purples and greens but this pastel combo is challenging!  Used some Distress Oxides to make a smooshed watercolour background, and then stayed CAS with the rest ... hope you like it.

Thanks for stopping by and hope you have a great day.  I appreciate your comments.

Color Hues - Lindsey's Legacy Hop

Hey crafty friends,

Today, I'm honoured to be joining a very special challenge with the team at Color Hues!

In conjunction with their normal colour challenge, The Color Hues Design Team and a few guests (like me), from their sister challenge Seize the Birthday, are participating in a Blog Hop!

Collectively as a team, we are hopping in memory of our dear friend, fellow card maker, and Design Team member, Lindsey Martin-Penny, who sadly passed away last year from a rare and aggressive form of ovarian cancer.

The purpose of this hop will be to honor Lindsey, celebrate her life and all that she loved, as well as spread the word to raise funds for Clear Cell Ovarian Cancer Research.

How can you Help? You can find all the fabulous details and the start of the hop HERE!

In honor of Lindsey, the team has created a variety of cards using her favourite colour combo of Purple and Red. (I love these colours too!) Lindsey was a team mate but also a friend - was so fortunate to be able to meet her & her husband a few times in person. Miss her a lot.... I made a card in her honour that I know she'd appreciate.

Thanks so much for joining us!

Take care,
Glenda

p.s. This is one of two posts that I've done today in honour of Lindsey. Here's the other one.

#cardsforukraine

I am joining Seize the Birthday's sister challenge, Color Hues Color Challenge, in honouring Ukraine today with a yellow & blue challenge (for the Ukrainian flag). My words are few about what is going on in the world.  I'm trying to find a balance between staying informed and keeping my mental health intact. That said, I am so glad to be joining them today... just to put some some crafty love out into the world.

After some false starts, I finally made a card that I'm happy with. I made a 'stencil' by running my sunflower (the national flower of Ukraine) die through my die cutter with some masking paper. Used some Distress Ink to blend this sunflower background.  Fortunately, a random scrap of blue paper I found just happen to match with a couple of enamel dots I had lying around.

It would be great if you could join Color Hues with this blue and yellow challenge (or their regular challenge for this week). All the details are on their blog. I'm so honoured that they asked me to join in.

With the state of the world at the moment, I hope you are being kind to yourself and others. Taking time away from the news to relax and do things you enjoy.
Thanks for stopping by.

yellow & pink

I'm thrilled that I'm able to play along with Color Hues Challenge!  It's not really a matter of time - it's a matter of me just getting organized to photograph the card and do the post. I seem to be very good at getting the card done but missing the deadline. I was so determined to get a card done for this challenge that I am doing one that involves pink (and you know how I feel about pink).

Hope you have a great week.  It's a holiday Monday for us so looking forward to some more down time.
Thanks for stopping by,

Case Me a Christmas Card with Michelle Lupton

Happy December!  I'm honoured and excited that fellow science nerd and card maker Michelle Lupton invited me back again this year for some Christmas card fun. I have lots of Christmas cards left over from previous years so won't be making any new ones to send... but it's always but to play around with my Christmas crafty goodies.

This year, the challenge was to be inspired (CASE) one of Michelle's cards to create a Christmas card (and she will do the same for one of my cards). From Michelle (because she worded it so well):

CASE stands for Copy And Share Everything - but it's not about just copying a card. It's about getting inspiration from cardmaking friends, but making a new card that is our own.

I chose this adorable card and created this card. I wonder if I should have added some sparkle somewhere but overall quite happy with it! I might make a few more to send to some very special people.

Peace & Joy

Be sure to head over to Michelle's to see what amazing creation she came up with (I don't get to see it ahead of time so I am excited to see)!  I always love her cards and know it will be fabulous.

Thank you so much Michelle!  It is always a pleasure and an honour.

Playing along with Color Hues pink & brown challenge.  I was going to pass on this one but then I realized I had pink and brown alcohol ink... that would make things easier (take out most of the thinking part of card making - lol).

Happy Thanksgiving to my American crafty friends!  Hope you're having a great weekend.

Challenge Me a Christmas Card with Michelle Lupton

Hey crafty friends... I know it's far too early to be talking Christmas but not when it comes to Christmas card making! I'm playing along with the fabulous crafter and fellow science nerd Michelle Lupton again this year. Thanks so much for having me again Michelle!

I challenged Michelle to do some watercolouring with Distress Inks.  This is what I came up with on my end.  The Distress Inks used are Candied Apple, Twisted Citron and Shabby Shutters. I don't have poinsettias around my house at Christmas but this stamp from Avery Elle just shouts watercolour to me.  The sentiment is from my days on the Skipping Stones Design design team.  Using a French sentiment reminds me that I need to practice my French more... hoping to go to Quebec next year and 6 years of high school French won't get me far since it was so long ago! Added a bit of sparkle just for fun. Hope you like it!

Be sure to check out Michelle's blog for more Christmas inspiration!
Thanks for stopping by.

Challenge Michelle a Christmas Card

I was lucky enough to be asked to play along with Michelle Lupton's Challenge me a Christmas Card!  I challenged Michelle to make clean and simple CAS Christmas card.

I took some shimmer paper and did some green splatter. Then gold embossed merry and stamped Christmas.  Next, I scored two lines along the left side and then adhered to the base. It's hard to see the shimmer and the gold embossing so I took a close up.

I really do love CAS soooo much.... so I whipped up another one!  Just did a quick watercolour over the snowflake and then added the sentiment.  Put a little sparkle in the centre (the second photo shows that).

So thrilled that Michelle asked me to play along!  Be sure to check out Michelle's fabulous card.

Wishing everyone a wonderful holiday season. Thanks for stopping by. Always appreciate your comments!

Throwing it down x2

I love the current colours for the Color Throwdown but had a heck of a time building a card with them.  I ended up doing two... and truthfully I am happier with the second one.  However, I'll share both with you... any preference?

I do need to work on my blending... and I need more round sponges.  I haven't been doing this technique as much as I should.... *note to self*.

Hope you're having a great week and thanks for stopping by.

Cheers!

Happy Monday!  Hope you had a wonderful weekend.  We actually had some sun this weekend... I'm hoping it continues.  Now I just need the temperatures to improve. I would be happy if it was always summer. ;)

I'm playing along with the Wednesday colour challenge over at Simon Says Stamp (the image is below).  I have to admit this is a challenging colour palette for me so I went clean and graphic with my card.

My friend Jenn is responsible for the adorable array of pictures (and that's her kitty Mr. Harley).

Hope you have a wonderful week and thanks for stopping by.

Reformed paper hoarder

Well, maybe not 100% reformed... I still have A LOT of paper in my stash.  But I really have been trying to use up the paper that I have instead of buying more. The beautiful piece of paper (made by Pebbles) on this card, has been around for a loooooong time. The vibrant colours and the glossy finish are just so amazing together. I've pulled this together for the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday challenge where the theme is 'birthday' because it's 8th birthday of the Wednesday challenge!  Happy Birthday!

The best part? There is still a little bit of this paper left in my stash. ;)
Happy Friday crafty friends.  Hope you have a great weekend.

Friendly rainbows

A quick post for a quick and colourful card... the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog is doing rainbows this week.  I used a Gelli Arts plate with a new stencil from Tim Holtz.  I love rainbows and I'm really digging all of the 'scribble' stuff that is out right now.

Hope you're having a great week and thanks for stopping by.
