Warm... cool... and another geek-out

A little bit of everything today....

Be sure to check out my class schedule as there a bunch of classes coming up in November (including some fabulous calendar classes!).

First off is a card for this week's Moxie Fab World Tuesday Trigger. The inspiration piece is a sweater (warm) from Anthropologie. I was inspired by the colours and textures on the sweater. A little story about this card - I used my sewing machine (which now has a spot on my craft table, which I a big deal because space is a premium on my table and in my craft room) to make the holes for the sewing. Then hand stitched the yellow thread. Why did I do that? Because I didn't have a spool of yellow thread - just several small bits of it from hotel/travel sewing kits (they do come in handy!). I didn't have an embossing folder that was the same as the sweater texture so I used the closest one I had. This is also for Jeanne's Button Challenge for SCS Hope You Can Cling To. Thanks Cath and Jeanne for the inspiration!

I also wanted share with you some fall colour (cool) from my garden. This is a Japanese maple and it is normally a beautiful rich burgundy (which is why I bought it). Right now it is this brilliant red colour (this is not enhanced in Photoshop!). Quite amazing...love my garden.

Also wanted to tell you about something I got to do this week (geek out time). A local radio station (the Zone 91.3 FM) is doing a promotion this month (called 'My Turn') where listeners come in and play music of their choice for an hour and be a co-DJ! I got picked and it was so much fun. I love music and being a DJ was once one of my potential career choices so it was a huge thrill for me. A huge shout out to the staff there for putting this on and being so nice! So yes, I'm a music geek too...

Some people who didn't get to hear it wanted to find out my play list... here it is:

Dancefloor - Hannah Georgas (C)
Costa Rica - Vince Vaccaro (V)
Red Shag Carpet - Current Swell (V)
The Con - Tegan and Sara (C)
Felicia - The Constellations
Them Kids - Sam Roberts (C)
Poster of a Girl - Metric (C)
Closer - Kings of Leon
So Hard Done By - Tragically Hip (C)
Ghost Inside - Broken Bells
Weighty Ghost - Wintersleep (C)
Letters from the Sky - Civil Twilight
Crystalized - the XX
Loser - Beck

Some of my latest favourites as well as a few classics. The ones marked with a C are Canadian and the ones marked with a V are from right here in Victoria! I realized I should have talked more about the music but rambled on about other things instead. However, I think it went pretty well and I had a blast.

Thanks for stopping by, I always appreciate it! If you are looking for challenges to play along with, check out my challenge from Monday and the Color Dare from yesterday.

Anthropologie Trigger

I've only been to Anthropologie once and I loved it. It was when I was in Seattle last October with my girls for A Muse instructor training. So wish we had one here - it would be great for my home decor and my closest but not so great for my bank account! This week's Moxie Fab World Trigger Tuesday is this halter top from Anthropologie. Thanks Cath for another great challenge!

The white flowers look 'crinkly' to me, plus there are ruffles so I decided to use my crimper for texture. This is also for the Splitcoast Stampers Sketch Challenge this week. This card didn't turn out quite the way I planned but I guess it's ok! What do you think? Whipped it up last night when I was stampin' with my girls.

Have a couple of other random photos to share with. Good friends came over supper the other night and brought these with them. Such an amazing colour - aren't they beautiful? While taking these photos, I really realized that I need to read my camera manual. I love the camera and right now, I just muck around with things to get the photo to work (and sometime it doesn't). I really need to learn what I'm doing so I can repeat it!

Look what I saw in my garden yesterday when I was out picking raspberries. A dragonfly on my black bamboo, pretty amazing. Truth be told, it stayed there for quite a while so I'm not sure if it was resting or no longer of this world. Regardless, was happy to get this photo!

Thanks for stopping by. Hope you are having a great day. Be sure to play along with my challenge if you have a few spare minutes.

Random Sunday ramblings...

Looking for my challenge?

Saw this outside today...the first Camelia bloom of the year.
Got a little shout out today on Splitcoast Stampers as a Clean and Simple Favourite for this week (for this card)! So did a few other A Muse gals - Julie, Jennie and Emily.

Showing you a card that I made a while ago for the Fan Club Challenges on Splitcoast Stampers. This is for the central theme challenge, the inspiration and sketch challenges. To have access to these extra challenges, you need to be a Fan Club Member. It has a few other perks too so be sure to click on the link above to find out all about it!

05 February 2010

I love where I live...

(BLOG CANDY info is here - you have until February 7th at 11:59 pm Pacific time to enter)

...because it is the 5th of February and the flowers are blooming (and have been for a while) and the sun is shining. It makes me put a huge smile on my face. It also makes me realize my garden has been neglected and is in desperate need of weeding (I won't show you the weeds!). I went for a two hour walk this morning with my friend Joanna (who had the day off). It was so great to be outside.

On to today's card (which I actually made yesterday).. this is for the SCS Fan Club colour challenge. We were to be inspired by this Tiffany & Co photo. This is also for Tracy's Sketchy Thursday #69. This spotted tote stamp is an old A Muse stamp which I just got - isn't it fabulous? The scalloped line stamp is old but new to me also. I'm super excited today too as I got some happy mail which I will be playing with soon. It's some stamps from Papertrey Ink (my first ever order from Papertrey) which were designed by my friend Alli Miles. Hopefully I'll have something to show you tomorrow!

Happy Friday! Have a great day and a great weekend. Hope you get a chance to play along with the challenge for chance to win some blog candy! Glenda
