Color Dare 87

This week's Color Dare is Perfect Plum, Concord Crush and Chocolate Chip. Well, I don't have any Concord Crush so subbed in Elegant Eggplant. The lighter purple is a scrap of unknown origin which I am calling pseudo Perfect Plum (hee, hee). Hope you have a chance to play along this week. Be sure to check out the rest of the Design Team and their fabulous designs! (ETA - I did this post in advance and forgot to add these links - oops!)

This card is also for Clean & Simple's Fall to Layout 118 and for the SCS Clean and Simple 95 (Flower accents) challenge this week.

The only thing I have to say about it being the first of December is - how the heck did that happen? I just realized something - I must have used the 2009 page for this calendar page cause the days of the week are incorrect... ok it's official, I'm losing my mind. Be sure to download the A Muse charity calendar if you haven't yet!

Thanks for stopping by. If you are needing more inspiration, check out my sketch challenge from Monday. If you missed out on yesterday's post, be sure to check out my exciting news.

Here's another amazing (and easy) recipe for you - Thai Coconut Curry Butternut Squash Soup. I made it with local squash... so yummy with the hit of Thai red curry (my fave).

Fall Favourites

Well, after my little rant the other day about fall... Jennie has asked me to come up with something I love about fall for the October A Muse Lounge Challenge. One thing I do love is the colours since they are so rich and there is a whole lotta' red around (and you know how much I love red). Thanks to Jennie for asking me to help out. I love challenges (as you know) and I love A Muse challenges the most!

The layout for this was inspired by Dawn McVey's card on page 72 of Paper Crafts Card Creations. Thanks for stopping by and hope you can play along with this month's A Muse Lounge Challenge. Who knows, you might even win something!

Here's an example of the wonderful rich colours of fall. These are pumpkin fields I can see from my back deck. I'm not into Hallowe'en or pumpkins but I think it's pretty cool.

(this section was added a bit later 'cause I forgot what day it was)

Here's my calendar page for October... even though I'm "not into Hallowe'en or pumpkins", A Muse has so many fun stamps for this season, I couldn't resist. Remember to download yourself an A Muse calendar, proceeds go to the very worthwhile Charley's Fund.

I must admit the beginning of a new month is not always a happy day for me because it marks another jobless month and I tend to get a little (ok, sometimes a lot) down. So instead, today, the beginning of the month of Thanksgiving (the Canadian version - don't worry my American friends, the space time continuum has not been altered), I'm going to be grateful - for my hubby, my family (several of whom I will see at Thanksgiving), my friends, the roof over my head, the food in my fridge, my healthy body and mind, and for the beautiful sunrise I saw this morning.

Have a great weekend. Be sure to stop by tomorrow to celebrate World Card Making Day with me!

Bits of this and that...

Before we get to the cards, I have a few reminders:
- I have classes coming up at Lasting Impressions and Scrapbook Parade. Be sure to check out my schedule.
- If you missed it, here are my A Muse Calendar Projects.
- My challenge for this week is here.
- You can win a $50 gift certificate from A Muse! Click over to Spread the Word at A Muse News for all the details.
- All the logistics are set for Stampin' Island Style on October 16th in Nanaimo, BC. If you are interested in attending (I'm going!), get in touch with Angela Thomas or Kim Teasdale. The cost is $30 and that includes food. There will be make n' takes, door prizes and a buy and sell table.

Couple of challenge cards for you today. This one is for the SCS Ways to Use It 288 - Ransom Style letters.

This one is for the A Muse Lounge Challenge 20 - Krystie Lee's sketch (I flipped it). It's also for the SCS Inspiration Challenge 250 - I picked this shower curtain. I was inspired by the colours.
As you know, cutting is not my specialty...and that shows here. Not my best work but the colours really work, I think....

Calendar crazy

I love the A Muse calendars and this year the proceeds are going to another fabulous cause, Charley's Fund.

"Charley Beers was the daughter of a longtime A Muse fan, Amanda Beers. Charley died from an aggressive form of Strep A at the end of June. She was only 6 years old. To honor her memory, the Beers family has established "Charley's Fund" which will provide playground equipment and more at her elementary school in Olympia, WA. Please visit this Facebook group to see photos and learn more about this darling little girl."

Sniffle, sniffle... hope you are able to download a calendar (or two) and donate to this fabulous cause.

Here's my A2 which is also featured on the A Muse News, along with calendars from Julie and Lexi. I am addicted to the A Muse calendars and make a few different sizes every year. In particular, I love using the A2 calendar for my day timer at home. This sits beside my phone and I use it for a birthday and appointment calendar. I don't have a binding machine so simply punched holes, put some rings through and tied on some ribbon. It works really well. Also, the 'tiny' A Muse stamps are perfect to mark birthdays and holidays on these calendars.

I love the rounded corners but I can tell you after doing this project there was a lot of paper flying all over my craft room and a lotta' lotta' of these under my craft table (in fact, they are still there, I haven't vacuumed yet!). They have been tracked all over the house too... much to my hubby's chagrin!

I was feeling ambitious so I also did a mini one. All of the A Muse papers were cut from scraps - love that. So flippin' cute...this will hang on a hook in my craft room.

A quick note - the A Muse Calendars are a download product only. Nothing will be shipped to you. Calendar orders are only processed during regular business hours {Monday to Friday 8a to 5p}. Once your order has been processed, you will have unlimited access to the file(s) you have purchased.

Thanks for stopping by and remember to click over to A Muse and download yourself a calendar!

Foggy Fall Morning

Have to share a photo with you... view from my kitchen window this morning. According to my hubby, it was much more red when he got up (a wee bit earlier than me).

This cute and simple card was whipped up for the Embellish Paper Piecing Colour Challenge (kraft, yellow, light green, dark green) and the Clean and Simple Fall to Layout 107. Note: the girl's dress is yellow gingham, just like it was yesterday!

Remember:

Random Amusing Challenge 82

It's a very dark and rainy Monday morning here so I hope wherever you are, the sun is shining. Time for this week's challenge - use wood grain on your card or project. You can stamp it (A Muse has a great wood block stamp), use wood grain paper (like I did), draw it (so cool if you can do that), dry emboss it (surely there is a wood grain embossing folder out there somewhere) - whatever strikes your fancy. ETA - a couple of quick notes about this card - I have a really hard time using wood grain so this card is huge for me. Also, every time I paper piece this stamp (which is almost every time), her dress is always yellow gingham. Not sure why... guess it just works for me. If you play, please leave a comment here and link back here from your post. If you upload to an online gallery, like Splitcoast Stampers or Paper Craft Planet, use the keyword GRAC82. Thanks to Joanne, Dori, Krystie Lee (twice!) and Kerry for playing along last week with my heat embossing challenge.

Some exciting news today as well - the A Muse charity calendars are back and supporting another fabulous charity (have your tissues close by when you read about it - sniffle, sniffle). Check out today's A Muse News for today's feature projects by Elena, Krystie and Jenn. Be sure check back later this week when I will be showing off my calendar projects.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great week.

It's September and the sun is shining

The sun always makes me happy... which is good cause I was in a 'mood' yesterday. Also, my crafty girls came over last night and that always cheers me up too. I got one card finished in 2.5 hours (having issues making paper flowers) but had some good laughs so that is what's really important.

I realized I needed a masculine birthday card today so whipped this up this morning before I head out to paint. This is for Sketch Challenge 296 at SCS and for the Curtain Call Color Challenge Act 45. This is my first time playing along with this challenge. I follow Julie Smith's blog and she has been on the DT recently. Thanks to Julie for introducing me to this challenge!

Hard to believe it's September....

Random Amusing Challenge #77

Hope everyone had a great weekend. We were visiting family up island (sorry - for those who don't live around here - Victoria is on the southern end of Vancouver Island and anywhere else on the island is 'up island') and had a great time.

This week's challenge is a theme near and dear to my heart - travel. Your challenge is to put something travel themed on your card or project. It could be a postcard, a sailboat, a famous landmark... the possibilities are endless. I love the new trend of vintage travel with postcards, maps, etc. so made one for this challenge. ETA - I have uploaded a new card which I am happier with (hopefully you are reading this later in the day and you are now looking at my better card, instead of my inferior card) (keep in mind, I have a hard time with vintage). In addition, here are some travel themed cards from Jill, Deb, Kerry and Kathy. If you play along, please leave a comment here and link back to here from your post. If you upload to an online gallery, use the keyword GRAC77. Thanks to Deb, Janice and Kerry for playing along last week.

Somewhere in the busyness of the last little while, I forgot that it was August and subsequently didn't post my calendar page. My apologies... but better late than never, right?

Hope you have a great week and hope you get a chance to play along with my challenge. Stay tuned, I'll have a better card (I hope) for it! Thanks for stopping by.

Happy 143rd Birthday Canada!

I have been fortunate enough to travel to over 20 countries around the world but I must say that I love the country I live in and am very proud to be Canadian. Happy Birthday Canada! Thanks for being an amazing place to live. This card was inspired by Canada and by a card in the latest edition of Paper Crafts Magazine (ETA - Charlene Austin's card on page 43).
ETA - I was crafting with my friend Brandy when I made this and she said "that would be a good masculine card". Can't say that I have ever inadvertently made a masculine card before, guess there is a first time for everything!

Here is this month's calendar page from my little square calendar (one of three A Muse calendars I did this year.

To my fellow Canadians, I hope you are having a fabulous Canada day. Thanks for stopping by, I always appreciate it. If you are looking for my challenge, it's here.

June? Really? Seriously?

I have to say I'm quite stunned at the turn of the calendar. June marks the beginning of summer and have to say that it barely feels like spring here, let alone summer. It's still pretty cool but the trees and the flowers are definitely indicating that it's June. It also marks 4 months of unemployment for me and I have to confess, I thought I'd be working by now. Free Smiley Courtesy of www.millan.net

So to cheer myself up I'm going to share some random bits of everything with you today:
  • Congrats two talented ladies - my close friend Allison Miles and to fellow A Muse instructor Michelle Mathey for being crowned Stamping Royalty by Paper Crafts Magazine! Way to go ladies! I did enter but didn't win. Maybe next year! (I may be updating this as the day goes on, this was the first day people were able to announce the good news so I may hear more yet...).
  • A-MUSE-A-PALOOZA is next month and I will be teaching at Crafty Capers and Lasting Impressions. Stay tuned for class details!
  • I'm teaching the Stationery Box Class at Scrappers' Anonymous on June 13th. Details are here.
  • Summer Solstice is on June 21st and I'm hoping summer will have arrived by then.
  • Reminder that it is Father's Day on June 20th. I'll be sending my dad a card but no gift this year, his surprise birthday party was his gift for the whole year! My hubby is a dad too so will most likely do something for him.
  • Speaking of my hubby, I've been promising some friends that I would share some of his creations. His hobby is wood working and built us three tables for the living room last year. This is one of them...he is currently working on some more beautiful creations for us. He designed everything himself and I consider myself very fortunate to have these works of art in my house.
Ok, I'm done, I think...Thanks for stopping by and listening to me ramble on and on. If you are looking for my challenge, it's here. Have a great week and hope you have time to be creative this week.

May day

How did that happen? The months seem to be flying by. Hope your May has started out with beautiful weather, wherever you are. Free Smiley Courtesy of www.millan.net Sorry for those folks in Calgary who had a blizzard this week (that's why I live on the coast!).

Here's the May page from my daytimer calendar (one of three A Muse calendars I did this year - cause I have an addiction to making A Muse calendars). Also, not sure if I ever posted the cover so here it is. Confession - the damask is upside down and of course I did that on purpose... because I'm a little random.

Happy May! I'll be back tonight with some more Everything's Rosy amuse bouche goodness.

No foolin'... it's April

Ok, so I totally forgot it was April 1st today. How did it get to be April? First off, I was supposed to have a job by now...

Coincidentally, more of the same stamps as the last two posts. Sick of them yet?

Hope your April started off well. Have a great month!
Glenda

Turning the page to March

So March brings another turn of the calendar... and a job interview! Yikes, haven't been to a job interview in at least 13 years, and that one was for a minimum wage job!

This is the first of three posts today so I'll be back!

01 February 2010

Ok so...

... I know you are expecting me to announce the blog candy winner and have another challenge. Change of plans...I had a bit of a tough weekend so inspiration for another challenge was not forthcoming. Got laid off from my job of eight years on Friday. I didn't fit in with the corporate realignment plan. I've had fantastic support from Karl, my family and friends - I'm a lucky girl. Free Smiley Courtesy of www.millan.net Doing ok and enjoying a bit of down time before I hit the job postings. I have a good network here so I'm sure I'll have a fabulous new job in no time!

I do have a smile on my face today because I got this fabulous card from my great friend Jill. She has perfect timing! Thanks sooo much Jill.

So today I am doing another card for last week's challenge and giving you another week to participate in the challenge for blog candy! See here for details! Keep in mind that you need to put a link back to the original post when you upload it to SCS or your blog! The new deadline is Sunday February 7th at 11:59 Pacific time.

This is a clean and simple card combined with the February A Muse Lounge Challenge. I have a really hard time putting pink and red together (really love red, really don't love pink) so I thought I would give it a try. It's a variation of a card I put together a couple of week's ago. What do you think?

Also, it is February and time for a calendar picture. I have a confession - my name is Glenda and I am addicted to making calendars. Here is yet another calendar. I needed a daytimer one so threw this together a couple of weeks ago. Just before the end of January...

Have a great week. Hope you get a chance to be crafty. I have a busy week full of UVic Alumni events (I am president of the BOD - ;) ) but I'm sure I'll have time to be crafty sometime in there... with all my free time!

Calendar Class at Crafty Capers

So these photos really should have been up on Monday but alas... it just didn't happen. I had a fantastic time on Sunday with the ladies at Crafty Capers. There were some of my favourite regulars as well as some fun new faces. Missing from these photos is Victoria, the fantastic and ever patient owner of Crafty Capers. Thanks to everyone for a really fun day! I usually get a group photo but that didn't happen...

Here are Kathy, Sue, Leslie and Linda...

and Leonette, Michelle and Sheila.

If you are interested in getting a calendar from A Muse, check out the details here.

Enjoy your weekend,
Glenda

November... a week late

When I started this calendar project, I had every intention of posting them on the first day of the month. Problem was I was travelling last Sunday and completely forgot. Oops! Maybe I'm in denial about November and the coming of winter.

I'm doing some calendar classes so check out my schedule. Also, here are all the details about this fantastic project.

Hope you are having a great weekend. I'm off to be crafty!
