The other great thing that happened is I got an acceptance email from Paper Crafts Magazine saying two of my cards got accepted for the next edition of Go To Sketches! So thrilled!
However, with acceptance, also comes rejection! There were 84 sketches to choose from and I submitted for 22 of them. The official submission total, according to Paper Crafts, was 2,760! 2,760 - oh my... The editors had to narrow it down to 288 (four for each sketch). A very unenviable job, but wouldn't it but fun to look through all of those creations? Never mind, I would LOVE that job. Well Amber decided to host a 'Reject Blog Hop', so I decided to play along. Fabulous idea Amber! I decided to post a card that I won't be submitting anywhere else.
Here's the sketch:
That sketch just screamed 'front doors' to me so I came up with this.
ETA - Apparently, in the art world, this is known as a Salon des Refusés (exhibition of rejects). The original was in 1863 in Paris and included a famous work by Manet, Luncheon on the Grass (Le déjeuner sur l’herbe). Other famous artists who have exhibited in the Salon des Refusés include Whistler, Cezanne and Pissarro.
ETA - remembered this post from Teri Anderson (Go To Gal) last year with some great tips for submitting.
Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend.
Glenda

I see brilliance for sure! Skyline background and paper pieced windows with the perfect sentiment? Love it! It even had a nice masculine feel with those colors. Congrats on the two you had selected!
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh, your post cracks me up! Congrats on the cards that WERE chosen for publication. I did create a few of the sketch cards but didn't manage to actually submit them.
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome! I didn't even attempt this sketch. I submitted 16 and got one in. I was going for one, so I met my goal! LOL
ReplyDeleteWell, I really love your take on this one and the paper is just so cool. I must say that I did not attempt this one. A few of those sketches intimitated me a little!! :)
ReplyDeleteSuper cute! And just FYI, the cards I think will get picked up NEVER do, it's always the ones I'm not thrilled with that get chosen, lol! Ya just never know! :) Super excited to see your published cards!
ReplyDeletecongrats on having two cards accepted *yay* .. that's really cool!
ReplyDeleteSylvia xx
I like the card and the great use you gave to that paper. Congratulations on the two cards that got accepted.
ReplyDeleteI love it! So excited that you got two picked up -yay! It's so funny b/c my absolute favorite (possibly my favorite card that I've ever made) didn't get picked up, but another one did that I wasn't sure about- how funny! You've been such an inspiration lately- thanks!!
ReplyDeleteOh, this paper is perfect with this sketch. Congrats on getting 2 accepted! I also tried my hand at this sketch but it wasn't accepted. Great job!
ReplyDeleteWhoa! 22 cards? That's some serious paper crafting. Did you do all different sketches? I was tempted to repeat a couple of my favorites because I had so many ideas.
ReplyDeleteI'm still curious about how many were sent in for some of the most popular sketches. The geek in me wants to know those crazy odds.
Congrats on the publications! Cool card!
ReplyDeleteI love it! I love when you look at a sketch and just SEE what it should be. I had a couple of those this call, too. :)
ReplyDeleteI did one for this sketch too that got "rejected"....but just think how happy the other four were that got accepted. Wink. :)
ReplyDeleteI like yours! I made a Halloween card from the sketch and used googley eyes where the "doorknobs" on the sketch were. :)
Congratulations on your pub!! Fantastic job with the sketch!!
ReplyDeleteSeriously fab card, Glenda! And congrats on the pick up of 2. That's such an amazing feat!
ReplyDeleteTeri
Congratulations, Glenda! I am sorry that this one wasn't picked up. I had no clue how to even attempt this sketch, and I think this card is great. I love that patterned paper.
ReplyDeleteThanks so very much for stopping by my blog and leaving such a nice note. :)
Congrats! This is a great card! I love your take on this sketch!!
ReplyDeleteHaha! They always do that to me too! They take the cards I don't like and reject the ones I love. I've learned to just submit everything!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your two accepted cards! This one is totally fun and unique, and I love the way you used the patterned papers. Can't wait to see your other cards in print!
ReplyDeletevery fun! Congrats on your happy news too:)
